By now I’m sure you’ve seen Google’s graphic depicting the top ten trending Halloween costumes of 2014. Nine of those ten costumes came from TV and movies (Frozen, superheros, Maleficent — you get the idea). The one loner in the group? Dog spider. But “dog spider” can’t be the only popular dog Halloween costume, can it?
The “dog spider” video was a viral hit earlier in the year, spawning a whole new genre of pet costumes. In case you didn’t see the video, I highly recommend you pause reading this article to head to YouTube. People running terrified from a happy dog who happens to look like a fast, giant tarantula? Priceless. This, ahem, lone wolf in the top Halloween costume list got me to thinking. What are the top ten dog Halloween costumes?
The results were more than a little surprising. “Dog spider” has far surpassed the traditional dog costumes. “Dog tuxedo” has year-round search volume (apparently there are a lot of well-dressed pooches running around). And perhaps most surprisingly, the majority of the top dog costume searches revolve around Star Wars. Yoda dog? Ewok dog? Darth Vader dog? We’ve got ’em all!
Don’t fret cat lovers, I also pulled the top cat costume for your consumption. Unsurprisingly, grumpy cat still reigns supreme (although these searches are more likely for humans than cats!). Whether you choose a classic like the Yoda dog, or go for something a little funky, we hope you and your pets have a Happy Halloween!
