Get to Know New Hire, Meredith Wathne

Last week, our newest Associate Social Media Planner, Meredith Wathne, sat down with us and answered a few questions about her marketing experience and shared fun facts about herself. She joined NHI in September 2015, and we are excited to have her on the team!

Why digital marketing?

I got my first taste of marketing when I was 15 years old. I had to job shadow someone for school, and I choose my sister, who also works in the industry. After that experience, I knew I wanted to go into some form of communication. When I first started college, I was leaning more toward the PR side, which, you could say I’m still in PR in a sense because of how social media embodies the definition of “two-way communication.” Digital marketing — and more specifically, the social media takeover — was really starting to ramp up when I started school. I wasn’t even on Twitter until my sophomore year, but the more I was exposed digital and social through internships and personal experience, I feel in love with it and knew it’s what I wanted to do. 
I had various internships and was involved in societies in college. I was the president of the Minnesota State University- Moorhead chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America, I worked for the MSUM sports information department (Go Dragons!), interned with the MSUM marketing department, was a marketing intern at a company called Pedigree Technologies and I interned at the agency, Sundog Marketing. After graduation, I spent one year as an online marketing strategist at IRONCLAD Marketing. 

How did you connect with Nina Hale, INC.?

I have family in Minneapolis and it’s such an awesome city, so I always wanted to end up here. I would periodically search for social jobs that I qualified for, and I happened to come across a listing for Nina Hale. After looking at the website, mission, offerings and case studies, I knew it was the perfect fit.

Where do you see Nina Hale, INC. in five years?

I see Nina Hale, Inc. continuing to trail-blaze through the digital marketing landscape. This industry is constantly evolving, and the brilliant people here are excited and eager to evolve with it. This go-getter mentality will generate even more growth and client offerings. The sky’s the limit! 

What’s Your Go-to RestauranT?

This is a tough one, especially since I’m new the to city, but I’ll go with the Smack Shack. Oysters and lobster? You can’t go wrong. 

Favorite movie, music, and current Tv show binge?

Movie: Air Force One or Hitch Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

Music: It changes by the hour, but rotates between rap, electronic, and indie rock. Right now I’m into Jamie T, Penguin Prison, ODESZA, twenty one pilots, Woodie Smalls, and Pacific Air. 

Current TV show binge: I like to keep up with a lot shows (The Mindy Project, Brooklyn 99, Bob’s Burgers), but I also like to rotate between 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation, and The Office. No matter how many times I watch each series, I laugh at every episode. 


Anything else you’d like to share?

I have a wonderful fish named Cosmo. 
I’m a major Harry Potter nerd.
I fold clothes or wash dishes by hand to de-stress.
