This past Thursday (July 18), the Nina Hale crew went to check out the latest i612 event at the Graves Hotel in downtown Minneapolis, titled: “Mobile: The New First Screen.” A great turn-out of agency people, media partners and digital marketers ate some grub, grabbed some drinks and gathered together to hear some of the nation’s top mobile thought leaders speak about the hottest topics in the space.
space150 Associate Media Director Craig Key moderated the panel, with an mini-intro presentation featuring some sizzling mobile stats. One of our favorites? The average smartphone user uses their phone 150 times per day. This makes total sense, but is still pretty crazy to think about. Among the panel was a mix of technology reps and agency people. See the full panel list below:
- Michael Rosen, Vice President of Mobile and Online Sales, AT&T AdWorks
- Wade Beavers, Co-founder and CEO, DoApp Inc.
- Carrie Coffee, Vice President of Sales, North America, Mojiva
- Brian Stoller, Senior Director of Strategy, PlaceIQ
- Mallory Chiappetta, Senior Mobile Media Planning and Strategy, FRWD
While differing views emerged about strategic approach, seemingly all the panelists agreed that mobile is 100% a consumer-first marketing channel, and cautioned both brands and marketers to not get so bogged down in technology/device tactical segmentation. Although, I then brought up during the Q&A portion of the evening, that, while being device agnostic is important to look at mobile more holistically, consumers use devices differently (i.e. tablets vs. smartphones). Therefore, in many instances, such technology segmentation is very important.
Overall, it was good stuff, and we’re looking forward to the next event. Check out i612’s upcoming event list here.
